Celebrating the Golden Grads from the class of 1972

G

raduates from W. P. Carey’s class of 1972 returned to the Tempe campus in May for their Golden Reunion. The W. P. Carey Alumni Relations team hosts this special event every year, allowing classmates from the university’s 50-year reunion class and their guests to reconnect with each other and ASU.

Class of 1972 reunion attendees were joined at the breakfast and short program by members of the classes of 1957, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1968, and 1969. Here’s what they shared:

1960s

Dr. Gary Hall (BS Management ’62, MA Education ’67, EdD Education ’72) retired from the Tempe Union High School District after 44 years.

Ed Sandidge (BS Insurance ’62) celebrated his 61st year at MassMutual Arizona in April. He was honored in October 2017 for his contributions to Sun Devil Athletics, the ASU President’s Club, and the W. P. Carey Alumni Council.

Alvin Bender (BS Accountancy ’63) is a certified public accountant in Phoenix who helps individuals and small business owners prepare their taxes.

Jane McKallor (BS Accountancy ’64, MA Education ’70) supervised student teachers for the Arizona Department of Education for 15 years.

Harry Jones (BS Business Administration ’65, MBA ’70, PhD Business Administration ’72) said he’s tried to maintain himself as a generalist in business. As a manager and consultant to water improvement districts over his career, he’s engaged attorneys and hired accountants, operators, and more.

Gary Johnson (BS Economics ’68, MBA ’69) got the No. 1 job placement offer in 1968 from Ford Motor Co. at $750 a month. Today, Johnson is marketing director at the law offices of Glynn Gilcrease in Tempe, Ariz.

Nicholas Zozula (BS Accountancy ’68) retired from an accounting role in 2010 from D-Velco Manufacturing of Arizona (Northstar Aerospace). Since then, he has volunteered his time at his church as treasurer.

Juliann Trump (BS Business Administration ’69) is a Scottsdale Unified School District teacher. She also serves as a DECA advisor, sharing access to resources to enhance the classroom experience, bringing learning to life, and motivating students.

1970s

David Raseley (BS Business Administration ’70) is the owner of Accord Tax Services in Phoenix, which helps individuals and small businesses with tax preparation.

Charles Easaw’s (BS Management ’72) first job after graduating was as an employment supervisor at Mountain Bell telephone company in Phoenix.

Larry Fleming (BS Business Administration ’72) is the founder and general building contractor of the homebuilding company Millenium Constructors in Phoenix. Fleming was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity.

Gordon Holiday (BS Agricultural Economics ’72) retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in December 2011 after working at the agency for more than 30 years.

Teddy Olivo (BS Business Administration ’72) started all three seasons on the Sun Devils football team playing at middle guard, bringing home Second-Team All-WAC honors in 1969 and then again in ’71.

Marco Posada (BS Finance ’72) retired in 2002 from Qwest Communications after a 28-year tenure at the telecommunications company. Then he worked part time for America West Airlines (which became U.S. Airways, then American Airlines) to take advantage of the flight benefits. Posada was among the first group of officers of ASU’s Hispanic Business Alumni.

John Richardson (BS Business Administration ’72) was a member of the ASU business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi and student council president. He also was a founding member of the Student Investment Management Program, which allows honors students in the Department of Finance to gain hands-on experience managing an investment portfolio worth $1 million for the ASU Foundation.

Irwin Sheinbein (BS Business Administration ’72) remembers becoming a member of the Delta Sigma Pi. “The business fraternity allowed us to expand what we learned in the classroom outside the school. He’s the president of his family’s scrap metal recycling business, American Metals in Chandler, Ariz.

Jerry White (MBA ’72) retired from the investment department at Arizona Public Service after 30 years.

Victor Wickersham (MBA ’72) said one of his fondest memories at ASU was the summer of 1968. “While standing in line to pay my Palo Verde dorm fee, I met a pretty geology student. This year, Ginia and I will be celebrating our 52nd wedding anniversary.”

1960s

Robert Charles (BS Real Estate ’69) is a reverse mortgage professional at American Advisors Group in Arlington, Va.

1970s

Leonila Y. Bustamante (BS Operations/Production Management ’75) has been married to fellow ASU alum Frank “Kiko” Cano (BA Broadcasting ’75) for 47 years. Having met on the ASU Tempe campus, the couple has three children and five grandchildren.

1980s

Lisa Conesa (BS Economics ’80) is celebrating 15 years as a U.S. Department of State diplomat.

Sheryl Bronkesh (MBA ’81), the daughter of two Holocaust survivors, is the president of the Phoenix Holocaust Association and chairs the Genocide Awareness Week Community Advisory Board at ASU. She is the executive vice president at message optimization company Newristics (formerly HSM group) in Scottsdale, Ariz., where she pioneered the application of relationship marketing and customer loyalty principles in the health care industry.

Bradley Rogers (BS Marketing ’81) retired after more than 26 years in the college publishing industry. Now he volunteers and travels leisurely, including trips to Tahiti, Bora Bora, the Caribbean, and Europe, as well as on cross-country road trips.

Fordham Tucker (BS Finance ’84) is the CEO and principal at 3D Systems Integrators in Phoenix.

Mike O’Neill (BS Marketing ’86) is celebrating 35 years in the roofing materials distribution industry.

Mary Mangione (BS Accountancy ’87) is celebrating her 26th year as a certified public accountant.

Thane Stenner (BS Finance ’88) is a senior portfolio manager and investment advisor at Stenner Wealth Partners+ of Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Top 100 Magazine recognized him as one of the Top 100 People in Finance for 2021.

Julie Alvarado-Dubek (BS Business Management ’89) is the executive vice president and chief human resources officer of Banner Health in Arizona. Previously, she was senior vice president of total rewards and HR operations at the nonprofit health system. Alvarado-Dubek is a member of the W. P. Carey Dean’s Council.

1990s

Patrick McCormick (BS Business Management ’94) is the chief information officer at Imagine Communications, a broadcast media production and distribution company in Plano, Texas.

Neil Russell (BS Management ’94) is the senior vice president of corporate affairs and chief communications officer for Sysco in Katy, Texas. He was nominated to the New York Stock Exchange Advisory Board and named by the administration of the White House to the Wilson Center advisory expert panel for supply chain. Russell is currently the chairman of Kids’ Meals, a nonprofit food delivery service to preschool children in Houston.

Omar Douglas (BS Supply Chain Management ’97) is the head of insights, outcomes, and reporting at Wells Fargo in Phoenix. Previously, he was the bank’s senior data and analytics manager for 11 years.

William Nolde (BS Accounting ’97) graduated from the Stanford Graduate School of Business as part of the Executive Program in February 2022. Nolde is also part of the fifth cohort representing ASU at the ASU Leadership Institute this fall.

Cari Weston (BS Accountancy ’98, MTax ’00) is the executive director for the Center for Accounting Transformation in Washington, D.C. Previously, she was the director of tax practice and ethics for the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants in the district.

2000s

Carlos Cantor (MBA ’03) is the director of revenue growth management for Husqvarna Group in Cave Springs, Ark. Previously, he was senior manager of pricing strategy and revenue growth management for Campbell’s Soup in Bentonville, Ark.

Neil Kitkovski (MBA ’03) is the vice president of treasury at Scientific Games in Atlanta, a global leader in lottery games, sports betting, and technology.

Justin Lutz (BS Real Estate ’05) develops commercial lending relationships as a market manager for Great Southern Bank in Phoenix. Previously, he was a senior vice president of commercial lending at financial services company Bankers Trust in Des Moines, Iowa.

Amanda Ambrosio (MBA ’07), a senior manager at business consulting company Sia Partners in Seattle, welcomed her son, Landin, on May 19, 2022.

Cody Castañeda (BS Finance ’07) is the senior vice president of deal structuring and execution for GE Energy Financial Services in Houston. Castañeda leads the company’s energy investment teams on thermal and renewable investments across Latin America.

Tony Coombe (BS Accountancy ’08) is a pharmacy manager at CVS in Peoria, Ariz.

Katie Bargetto (BS Supply Chain Management ’09, MBA ’13) founded financial coaching consultancy Axiom Wealth Solutions and real estate investment company Bargetto Enterprises. Previously, she was a genetic deployment manager at Driscoll’s in Watsonville, Calif.

2010s

Michael Furey (BS Finance ’10) is the assistant vice president of financial planning and analysis for Hyatt Hotels in Salt Lake City.

Jason Guiles (MBA ’10) is celebrating his 10th work anniversary at tele-communications company Viasat in Carlsbad, Calif.

Dustin Leonard (BS Management ’10) founded Little Ripples Wine in Sydney, which provides a person in a developing country with clean water for one year for every bottle of wine sold.

Gina Apresa (MS-IM ’11) is a senior security project manager at software development company Unqork in Phoenix.

Brady Emerson (BS Computer Information Systems ’11) and Susan Eckman (BS Accountancy/Finance ’12) married on April 9, 2022.

Bret Larson (BS Accountancy/Marketing ’11), CEO and co-founder of Phoenix-based telemedicine software company eVisit, has been named by The Healthcare Technology Report to the list of the Top 50 Healthcare Technology CEOs of 2022.

Brittany Miller (MBA ’11) is the vice president of design, construction, and supply chain at NTT Global Data Centers in Scottsdale, Ariz. Previously, she spent four years leading teams in Microsoft’s cloud operations and innovation business unit.

Jon Brinkman (BA Business Law/BS Finance ’13, MBA/JD ’17) guides clients through all phases of litigation, from handling pretrial motion work and depositions to advocating on their behalf in court, as an associate in the Phoenix office of Dickinson Wright’s commercial and business litigation practice group. He was named among 2022’s Southwest Super Lawyers Rising Stars, a recognition for up-and-coming attorneys in the state.

Rachel LeBeau (MiM ’13) is a development and community engagement manager at Great Hearts Academies in Phoenix.

Katlyn Orton (BS Management ’13) was honored with the 2022 Women Working in Wealth Award by the American College of Financial Services for supporting women in the financial services industry. She’s a financial advisor for Northwestern Mutual in Clearwater, Fla.

Rushikesh Hayatnagarkar (MBA ’14), a senior product manager for Amazon in Seattle, manages free cash flow initiatives that optimize the supply chain for the company’s private brands.

Buu Nygren (MBA ’17) was the chief commercial officer at the Navajo Engineering & Construction Authority in Shiprock, New Mexico, before resigning to run for Navajo Nation president in April.

Jamil Brown (MBA ’18) celebrated his 10th work anniversary at glass, ceramics, and concrete manufacturing company Corning in Charlotte, N.C.

Michael Court (MBA ’18) owns the Brimley’s White Glove Chem-Dry franchise in Mesa, Ariz, which won franchise of the year among a nationwide network of 1,800 franchises.

Quinn Gallagher (BA Business Sports and Media Studies ’19) is a mortgage loan officer at Blackmon Home Loans, a family-owned and -operated home mortgage business in Las Vegas.

2020s

Lauren Holstad (MS-BA ’21) is a marketing science lead at Google in Chicago.

Jaron Lodge (BS Business Entrepreneurship ’21) founded the Skip NN’ Hole skipping cornhole pool game, which is now available in 260 retail stores.

Qian Tu (MS-FIN ’21) is a pricing analyst at China Telecom Americas in Los Angeles.

Joshua Wales (BA Sports Business ’21) will celebrate his first work anniversary at Phoenix Rising football club as a business development account executive in October.

Kris Beecher (MBA ’22) is the co-facilitator for ASU’s Indigenous Leadership Academy, a training program for Native people holding or aspiring to leadership positions in the public and nonprofit sectors. An associate at Dickinson Wright in Phoenix and a member of the Navajo Nation Bar Association, Beecher also served a three-year term as chairman of the board of the largest public housing authority in Indian country.
