ince becoming dean of the W. P. Carey School of Business in 2013, Amy Hillman led the school through incredible innovation and success. For example, you would not be reading W. P. Carey magazine today without her guidance and commitment to engaging with our alumni around the world. Work on the inaugural issue of this magazine began within two months of the start of Dean Hillman’s tenure.

That same year, she presided over the opening of McCord Hall, our graduate facility that boasts state-of-the-art classrooms and meeting rooms, specialized industry space, and dedicated areas for master’s degree programs. The new building gave us vital room to grow — the next year we launched our master’s degrees in finance and global logistics. Our programs have proliferated each year since.

Today, we are one of the largest business schools in the country with more than 16,000 students across 60 graduate and undergraduate degree programs. Thirty of those programs are ranked in the top 25 by U.S. News & World Report, the most of any business school in the nation.

Dean Hillman also was vital in working with donors to meet W. P. Carey’s ASU Campaign 2020 capital goal of $150 million, which will help the school recruit world-class faculty, solve urgent global questions, and put a top-notch business education within reach of more students. Her leadership and vision have helped secure a future of continued excellence where we can accomplish our mission to educate tomorrow’s business leaders, take an entrepreneurial approach to learning, and conduct groundbreaking research to create positive change on a global scale.

Most of all, in a world that stereotypes business as being cold and detached, Dean Hillman exemplified our purpose to help make the W. P. Carey School a place where “Business is personal.” We are relieved to know she won’t be far away as she resumes her post as a professor in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship.

Thank you, Dean Hillman!
